Are you working on or towards your next big thing? What is it? What does it consist of? Who’s involved? What’s the purpose of it? These are some of the questions you may need to ask yourself in order to ensure that YOUR NEXT BIG THING serves a purpose more important than your ego!
Although many people create events to either make money or showcase their expertise, there may be an even grander reason for creating an event…especially if its YOUR NEXT BIG THING. The point of it all is to make sure you are serving people that really need what you have to offer. That’s what’s most important and it’s how you begin to be known as a subject matter expert!
Hopefully the first step is that you’re working in your gift!. Many of us have multiple talents and at times we may confuse what we know with what we should be doing. I’ve experienced it myself. That can be a cardinal mistake. It’s not always smart to be a jack of all trades and a master of none, yet you claim to be an expert of the current trend.
You need to be sure that you really do understand what it is that you’re trying to be known for (that area of expertise), so that YOUR NEXT BIG THING proves worthwhile. Knowing the who, what, when and how of a thing proves a value main focus. You have to be able to help people.
If you are the main presenter and the thing has your likeness and you’re being touted as the one (Neo), be sure that you offer different means of stimuli. When working with people, or serving a body of people you have to have a broad enough approach that everyone is sure to get something out of your widget (YNBT). At the same time you should be broad yet specific which screams expert!!!
My focus is change / leadership, yet I’m still perfecting my presentations and my stage presence when giving my presentations. I’m my biggest competitor. Who’s your biggest competitor? So this brings me to the next point. Are you collaborating with a company, an individual or a group of individuals. This should take some of the pressure off of you for multiple reasons.
It should eliminate a lot of the heavy lifting. Administrative task can drain the life out of you (creating a program, making sure that the food is ordered, having the a/v team on task, which usually includes the videographer, the slides, and microphones depending on how big your event is.
Realize I haven’t event touched speaking yet. Doing the admin can drain your energy from the presentation, so you either need massive time to prepare or a team…maybe even both. Do we need to talk about the other aspects of setting up your room? That’s also a very important aspect of the heavy lifting.
When you create a shared environment that can become very attractive to your customers or audience. Shared billing draws more customers / people that may not see you otherwise. Stay frosty, you don’t want those people to see you if you’re not at your best (get your game face on!).
When it’s all said and done your purpose should be to provide answers for those that need you or YOUR NEXT BIG THING in order to help them with their pain! Look for more from me this year. We’re rolling out a set of bootcamps and a career in November (Profiles of Triumph).
