Making a way out of no way!
Why are you doing what everybody else is doing? That’s a direct question to you. So are you wondering why I’m asking or are you wondering if you actually are doing what everyone else is doing? You may be thinking so what if I am or what’s wrong with that? Maybe there isn’t anything wrong with it, but unless you go against the grain…you will never know.
Society has us thinking in terms of trending. Honestly it’s no different than it was years ago. We all wanted to be cool and we all wanted to fit in so we bought Chuck Taylors, Pumas, or whatever style was considered popular. Today kids buy and die for Michael Jordan’s shoes, or Lebron’s latest. Back in the day it cost us $8 per pair to be accepted, but today it can cost $200 up to $300 for a pair of sneakers and that’s the admission to be accepted.
We have to know who we are and what drives us, what drives our emotions and our intellect. Social Media has many of us trapped in the same manner. Social Media is innovative and the latest phenom, but in many ways it will only dumb us down to not being motivated to actually do anything. A virtual reality is so far from real life, but as technology continues to move forward we buy into being big man on campus with videos and big talk about who we are, when we really aren’t.
When was the last time you got out of the house and went to an event or had fun doing an activity that absolutely did not involve modern technology. Having a good time without checking your phone doesn’t seem to exist today. Our intellect may be pricked but our physical contact and activity will suffer. We are only living inside of a box (you choose the size). We must truly learn to “Radiate the Brain & Change the Game” in our lives.
I’m a pretty serious thinker and I’ve been bitten by the bug at times also. The bug of laziness, the bug of let me get social media likes, the bug of I don’t need to network in real time I can do it in front of a computer screen…WRONG! We need that balance of Hi tech and Hi touch to make our lives and activities relevant!
Hi touch is letting people know that you are real and that you stand behind whatever that your supposed to be good at or whatever you’re known for. Hi tech is when we get online and say to the masses this is my ad, this is what I’m good at check me out, buy from, me share my message! In today’s time we cannot have one without the other and if you do…it may make the process of reaching your goal a bit tougher.
One of my coaches told me to trust myself and to just go for it. There are answers, but no easy answers and no guarantees to all of life’s challenges or opportunities. If you fail be like John Maxwell (Failing Forward) and learn from your mistakes, but one major mistake I can help you with at this very moment is to stop doing what everybody else is doing!
