Many times we don’t know what’s next for us, and there is a very good reason…we did not plan for anything to be next. You may see this in a sort of strange way, but if you think about it…it’s true. The only way to have anything next in your life, you must prepare for it.
It can be a game of pick up basketball (I got next), it can be a vacation, it can be choosing to go and see a movie (what’s playing). You must decide and plan that there needs to be something on your calendar / agenda. There’s a book that says “ask and you shall receive” and there are references that state “you have not, because you ask not” — getting the picture?
The more time you pour into doing, preparing or going somewhere, the more likely there’s something else waiting for you in the wings. As a speaker I don’t speak nearly as much as I’d like, but some speakers are amazed at how often I’m hired or on a platform somewhere in the country.
The next step is to get out of the country and become an international speaker, but until then I’ll keep filling up my dossier nation wide. The process to having a NEXT…is staying engaged. The more you are engaged at events, at letting people know what you do, or in staying in environments that support your interest you will always have a plan or an opportunity to create a NEXT!
Steps to having a WHAT’S NEXT!
- Decide what you want to do or what your interested in.
- Research how to make it happen or when it’s happening again.
- Choose the next occurrence that you want to participate in.
- Go and do the thing (place or activity).
- Keep up with the frequency and nuances of it.
- Surround yourself with people, places, and things that are related to those activities as frequently as possible.
The law of averages tell us that the more we do something, the more we’re engaged with that thing. So for example…if you are a product of your environment, that means that your actions and demeanor are reflective of where you come from. Now if you like working, painting, music, or finding gigs as an entrepreneur…those things will keep popping up in your life and that is the abbreviated version of how you keep WHAT’S NEXT in your life.
I conduct business everyday, but that doesn’t mean I speak everyday it means I’m laying the groundwork to speak somewhere (for someone else or creating my own opportunities).
