I understand that we are living in a hyper-sensitive period of time. This may not be true for all, but for some of us it’s nerve wrecking and maybe even stressful. If you deal with the general public this level of sensitivity may be compounded because you are always on and it seems as if you can never be off (have a bad day or turn off the charm).
There are various careers and professions that are affected by this new norm. If you are a receptionist, executive assistant, administrative assistant, concierge, security officer, law enforcement officer, salesman, or even a bike messenger you may be faced with the mindlessness or the insensitivity of people that think nothing of you. In fact they may not care how professional you are or how professional you’re trying to be! Yes, and regardless you are expected to keep going in lieu of if all.
We are expected to keep the smile, keep the friendliness, keep the same positive mental attitude as if it’s our first day and everyone loves us. NEWS FLASH!!! You need a break too. You need the opportunity to catch a breather, an opportunity to regroup from a lack luster response or a flat out negative reception.
Ok so let’s look at both sides of the coin. We may not always be our best selves…so although 100% is expected…a healthy self evaluation is needed also. In other words it’s not always the other person. Can you imagine how stressful or intense things may be as an entrepreneur when there is not guaranteed pay check!!!
I’ll be conducting a series of workshops, trainings and bootcamps this year and would be more than happy to pour into each and every one of you how I do and how you can do it too! Here’s the takeaway…You don’t need 3, 5, or 7 tips. You’ve got to have something working for you and it has got to make your heart smile.
If you have a job and a side line that’s great! If you only have your business…you really need to make sure that your #1 thing is almost as important as air or your loved ones. Why??? Because you’re worst day won’t stop you from continuing on. In the job market we continue because we have to, but even in those scenarios if you know that you are good at what you do and you like what you do…you’re set. Just keep striving.
If you’re an entrepreneur…it’s got to be your #1 area of focus that you’ve invested all of that time into…once again because nothing will knock you out of the box. If you sell a lot it’s a great day. If you don’t sell a lot, you’re figuring out why and how to change it. If people come to your event…it’s a great day! If people don’t show up to your event you’re figuring what you did wrong or how you can still use what you have to flip the end result into something beneficial.
The bounce back or resilience approach is what it takes to make you successful. We don’t hit home runs or grand slams consistently without being challenged. When we are challenged there’s always a reason for it. Sometimes it’s us and sometimes…it’s the other guy. Good day, bad bad day…Never Let It Stop You…OK?
